Nov 1963 Lincoln Journal Star

No date on this one, but most likely printed in November following the 29-20 win over Oklahoma at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. Back then the bowls would pick their teams, and the Big 8 Conference was locked into a contract to send its Conference Champs to the Orange Bowl, usually against a Florida or South East Conference school.  We played Auburn, winning the game 13-7 and finishing ranked 5th and 6th in the polls.

Sep 9, 1972 The Sporting News

The start  of the 1972 football season brought a lot of determination on the part of the Huskers to win a third straight National Championship for last year Head Coach Bob Devaney before he retired at the end of that season. It wasn't to be, but it was a great 11 season run by Coach Devaney and the Cornhuskers!

Sep 1996 College Sports

"Can the Huskers Three-Peat?" They sure looked like they could, until a night in Tempe and a 19-0 thumping by the Arizona State Sun Devils in the same stadium that they crushed Florida 62-24 just a few months before.

Dec 1997 Lincoln Journal Star

Sorry for the grainy scan.  Great special edition leading up to the '98 Orange Bowl vs. Peyton Manning and the Tennessee Volunteers for a share of the National Championship.  The game started tight, but a Tennessee fumble caused by a jarring hit from Mike Brown started the Big Red scoring machine in motion to the tune of a 42-17 win and the #1 ranking in the Coaches Poll.
